WEEKLY DEVOTIONS

Here is the Blue Sheet home devotional for the week of Sunday, February 11th. Please download and use in your household to sanctify your home with the Word and prayer this week!

ANNOUNCEMENTS

LENTEN MIDWEEK SERVICES ~ During this year’s Lenten midweek services we’ll hear from some of Isaiah’s Servant Songs as well as the Passion account in Matthew’s Gospel, and discover how our Lord’s suffering fulfills what God promised, for our good.

  • Ash Wednesday Divine Service is February 14th at 7 p.m.
  • Wednesday midweek services follow for the next 5 weeks, also at 7 p.m.
  • Holy Week services will be held every night at 7 p.m., starting Monday, March 26th.

LENTEN DEVOTION BOOKS AVAILABLE ~ As part of your Lenten discipline, please consider using one of the Lenten devotional books provided on the table in the narthex. The Return from Exile assigns a Scripture reading and provides a short devotional reading for each day in Lent. This would be a great addition to your regular daily devotions. You can start anytime, even after Lent has begun!

LENTEN MIDWEEK MEALS NEEDED ~ Lent begins this Wednesday, February 14th, with the Ash Wednesday Service. Volunteers are needed to provide meals before the midweek services. There is a sign-up sheet on the bulletin board in the narthex. Would your group provide a meal? Or why not get together with some friends and serve the congregation in this way?

PRESCHOOL REGISTRATION ~ Did you know members of Good Shepherd receive priority preschool registration for the 2018-19 school year? If you are interested in enrolling your child in one of our programs, you have until February 20. Please contact Mindy at 496-3149 to receive additional details and paperwork.

LOVE BOXES BY FRIENDS IN FAITH ~ Every February Friends in Faith mail love boxes to college students, military and shut ins. We need your help to fill the boxes with packaged food items or monetary donations to help with postage. If you want to help with a monetary donation, please make check to Friends in Faith and submit to the church office by today! Packaged items could include: pop tarts, hot cocoa mix, oatmeal packages, candy or microwave popcorn. Place donated items in the church kitchen with a note “love boxes” by today! (The church will be open this afternoon from 3:30-5:30 if you’d like to drop off then.)

GAME NIGHT ~ Bring a game and join us for our next game night on 3/2 at 6 p.m. Pizza and soda will be provided; please bring a side or dessert to share. Please sign-up by noon on 3/2. All of the congregation is welcome and invited to attend!

HOUSING NEEDED FOR GREENVILLE CHOIR ~ The Greenville College Choir will be our guests on Friday, March 9th. They will give a concert of sacred choral music here at Good Shepherd that night. They have asked us to provide housing for them from Friday night to Saturday morning. If you are willing and able to provide housing, please sign up on the sheet in the narthex. Please sign up by Sunday, February 25th.

TORTURED FOR CHRIST MOVIE ~ The Voice of the Martyrs invites everyone starting March 5th to the inspiring new movie Tortured for Christ, a cinematic retelling of the testimony of VOM founder Pastor Richard Wurmbrand as written in his international bestseller Tortured for Christ. This movie was produced to honor the 50th anniversary of the book’s 1967 release. A certain number of tickets must be purchased for a Springfield showing to occur. Purchase tickets for the Springfield, IL showing here: https://new.tugg.com/events/tortured-for-christ-pui5

WHERE CHRISTIANITY MEETS CULTURE ~ Issues, Etc. is a radio talk show and podcast produced by Lutheran Public Radio in Collinsville, IL and hosted by LCMS Pastor Todd Wilken. This week’s topics include: The Early Warning Signs of Fascism, Western Civilization: Bane or Blessing?, Dave Ramsey & Financial Peace University, Late Term Abortions, and more. You can listen live or on-demand at www.issuesetc.org and on the LPR mobile app.
