Who We Are

The Christians who gather at Good Shepherd Lutheran Church in Sherman, IL, are saved by God’s grace alone, through faith alone, on account of Jesus Christ alone. We are sinners who have been washed clean by the blood of the Lamb of God who takes away the sins of the world.

We are your friends, your family, your neighbors, and your coworkers. We pray that God would keep us humble, loving, merciful, and full of a desire to bring the wonderful good news of the forgiveness of sin in Christ Jesus to the world.

We are not innovators but instead are receivers. We have received from God wonderful promises and mysteries; the same ones that were received by our forefathers in the faith: C.F.W. Walther, Wilhelm Löehe, Johann Gerhard, Martin Chemnitz, Martin Luther, Augustine of Hippo, Ambrose of Milan, Cyprian of Carthage, Polycarp of Smyrna, Ignatius of Antioch, and countless more. As the writes to the Hebrews puts it, we are surround by a “great cloud of witnesses” and, just like them, we continue “looking to Jesus, the founder and perfecter of our faith, who for the joy that was set before him endured the cross, despising the shame, and is seated at the right hand of the throne of God.” (Hebrews 12)

We are rich in the Word of God, we are reverent in worship, we are abundant in mercy, and we are unapologetically Lutheran.

Good Shepherd Lutheran Church is a member congregation of the Lutheran Church – Missouri Synod.
